Suture
A suture is a medical device used to close wounds or surgical incisions, helping tissues heal together. Sutures are typically made from materials like silk, nylon, catgut, or absorbable polymers. They come in different forms, including monofilament (single strand) and multifilament (braided) sutures, each offering varying degrees of strength and flexibility. Sutures are used in a wide range of procedures, from minor cuts to major surgeries, and are applied using a needle designed for precise placement in tissues. The primary purpose of sutures is to hold the edges of a wound together while allowing for proper healing, reducing the risk of infection, and minimizing scarring. Absorbable sutures dissolve over time, while non-absorbable sutures may need to be removed after the wound has healed sufficiently.
